Hi, I'm Del Dennington , the chairman of the South Essex Koi Club, and would like to take this opportunity to give you some insight into how, when, and why the club came into being.

Some Nine years ago, a group of Koi enthusiasts  decided that a new type of Koi club was needed to promote our hobby,  there are several other clubs in our area, but they are all run in a formal manner, with formal committees, which always produces a them and us situation among the members, decisions about running the club could only be discussed at the A.G.M.  provided that a member wishing to put forward a suggestion had applied in writing to the club secretary several weeks before the meeting ,and many other negative practices.

We decided to cut through all this red tape and form a club without a top table, without a fat rule book, a club where everyone would be equal and above all without the politics that so often spoil clubs and organisations such as ourselves.

Our policies were ridiculed by some outside the club, and I was told that the club wouldn't last a year but low and behold here we are in our Ninth year, and still going strong, and more importantly still working to the same basic ideas that we set out all those years ago.

Learning doesn't have to be a serious process and we have tried to make it fun and succeeded.
